I'm thrilled to be a participate in the Launch Tour for Jill Stengl's newest novel, Until That Distant Day!
What songs would you include if Until That Distant Day had a soundtrack?
This was a harder question to answer than you might think! I love music, but my taste tends to be quite eclectic and has little to do with my writing.
However, after some thought and searching around on the Internet, I settled on these songs for various themes and moments in the book.
The Ça ira was a popular dance of the Revolution. Here is “Ah! Ça Ira,” if you’d like a taste of what Colette heard at the first Tuileries demonstration. This was originally a country dance tune, to which an early revolutionary wrote fun lyrics. As the revolution progressed, new lyrics were written that are considerably less pleasant! (Both sets of lyrics are on Wikipedia, btw.)
If I were to choose a theme song for this novel, it would be Jeremy Camp’s “There Will Be a Day.” Even the titles nearly match!
Colette’s change of heart comes gradually as God makes His presence and love known to her amid tragedy and confusion. My daughter suggested Keith Green’s classic song “Your Love Broke Through,” which expresses clearly what Colette must have been feeling and thinking.
I suppose I am showing my age with these choices. But beautiful music and powerful lyrics are timeless! I hope you enjoy these musical snippets.
Thank you, Jill! It's always fun to see book and music "match-ups"! :)

Suddenly, Colette finds herself at odds with Pascoe and struggling to unite her fractured family against the lure of violence. Charged with protecting an innocent young woman and desperately afraid of losing one of her beloved brothers, Colette doesn’t know where to turn or whom to trust as the bloodshed creeps ever closer to home.Until that distant day when peace returns to France, can she find the strength to defend her loved ones . . . even from one another?
